Conference sessions explore challenges, changes and emerging opportunities

The Seawork 2017 conference delivered a thought-provoking agenda presented by key industry spokespeople covering a wide variety of subjects, including ‘The implications of Brexit’ and ‘Safe access to Offshore vessels’.
Located on-board the Ocean Scene, berthed in the Seawork Marina and sponsored by specialist marine underwriting agent Knighthood, the three-day Seawork conference brought together hundreds of key professionals from every aspect of the commercial marine sector.

Some of the topics discussed included:
How to equalise the pressure: better education for seafarers balanced with improved time and cost effectiveness, Safety, Savings, Performance: The Benefits of Blended Learning in addition to Funding & Support for businesses in the Maritime Industry and Using design to drive innovation: apply for business funding.

On Tuesday 13th June a highlight of the 2017 conference was a conference session on Shock Mitigation, International Vibration Directives and the Implications of Brexit lead by John Haynes, Maritime Professional of the Year 2016. The lively discussions featured panellists including Paul Taylor - CEO, SHOXS, Jonathan Young - Director, SCOT SEATS, Julian Morgan - Technical Director, KPM MARINE, Reuben Mills - Director of Engineering, SHOCKWAVE, Jim Taylor - CEO, SKYDEX TECHNOLOGIES.

Wednesday and Thursday saw sessions on Reducing the risks on towage, with rising standards, Man overboard devices and Locator Beacons plus a wind farm vessel performance workshop, as well as a specialist session held by the MOD to create long standing commercial partnerships and trade export opportunities, worth many millions.

Once again, Seawork International also held its popular ‘Meet the Buyer’ sessions. These services enabled exhibitors to be matched with suitable organisations who require products or services.
