How the SKYDEX Mattress Helped a Transient Troop Training Facility Solve Hygiene, Life Cycle, and Disposal Challenges
In 2021, it was identified that nearly 7,000 beds at the VaARNG MTC Fort Barfoot needed to be replaced. As part of the effort to remove, recycle and replace the existing mattresses, Contractors were directed to procure the SKYDEX Mattress. The team at Fort Barfoot, worked closely with SKYDEX to understand how the product could solve their hygiene, durability and disposal issues. Reconstruction of the facilities began in October 2022 and will be complete in August 2023. SKYDEX has provided 1,000 mattresses a month to support this multi-building, phased program.

“Hygiene requirements are paramount for MTC in light of the COVID19 pandemic and other health and safety concerns such as bed bugs. In 2020, MTC identified a barracks mattress product manufactured by SKYDEX with a zip off removable cover that addresses both of these issues. The entire mattress can be disassembled and sanitized which provides a functional benefit for pathogens, infestations or soiled mattresses. The VaARNG State Occupational Health Nurse validated this product as optimal from an occupational health and safety perspective. This project requires the SKYDEX product.”
